The one thing missing in the fast growing whirlpool industry today is technology that addresses safety. There have been lawsuits where children’s hair has allegedly been drawn into the side suction and they have not been able to free themselves.

ANSI has spent tens of thousands of dollars trying to achieve safety standards for manufacturers. ANSI allowed a maximum of 5-psi average on the suction cover; 2-psi was desired but could not be achieved, UNTIL NOW!

American Molds, Inc. had been working on a way to guarantee the safety of the public, regardless of who manufactured the product. They invented and received a patent pending on a SAFETY SUCTION VALVE. This valve is installed in the suction line by a 1½" x 1½" x 1" tee stubbed above the overflow. The valve is adjustable to any psi desired to meet all safety standards. The valve eliminates practically all concerns connected with the hair entrapment issue. They felt that if a maximum of 2-psi is reached on the suction before the valve de-primes the pump, the unit should be safe. If the pressure on the cover should reach 2-psi, the pump will immediately shut down and release the object covering the suction valve. Once the object has been removed and the pump has had an opportunity to re-prime itself, it will begin operating again. The strongest feature of this valve is its construction. With no parts to wear out or malfunction, the simple spring loaded construction should practically assure the unit’s working order.
